Zola began his professional career in 1984 with Nuorese and later moved to Torres before catching the eye of Napoli in 1989. Under the mentorship of Diego Maradona, Zola honed his craft, contributing to Napoli's Serie A title in 1990. A move to Parma in 1993 saw him flourish further, helping the club secure the UEFA Cup and other domestic honors with his artistry and precise free-kicks.

In 1996, Zola transferred to Chelsea, becoming a transformative figure in English football. Renowned for his creativity, vision, and dribbling, Zola played a pivotal role in Chelsea's resurgence, leading them to win the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, FA Cup, and League Cup. His impact was so profound that he was voted Chelsea's greatest player in 2003.

Internationally, Zola earned 35 caps for Italy, representing the Azzurri at the 1994 World Cup and UEFA Euro 1996. While his international career was less prolific than his club achievements, his technical genius was undeniable.
