Cafu

Cafu, born Marcos Evangelista de Morais on June 7, 1970, is a Brazilian football legend widely regarded as one of the greatest right-backs in the history of the sport. Known for his exceptional speed, stamina, and leadership, Cafu's illustrious career spanned over two decades, during which he achieved remarkable success both at the club and international levels.

Cafu's journey to stardom began in his hometown of São Paulo, where he joined the youth academy of São Paulo FC. He made his professional debut in 1989, quickly establishing himself as a key player for the team. His relentless energy and defensive prowess contributed significantly to São Paulo's triumphs in the early 1990s, including back-to-back Copa Libertadores titles in 1992 and 1993, as well as the Intercontinental Cup in those same years.

In 1995, Cafu made his move to Europe, signing with Real Zaragoza in Spain before transferring to AS Roma in Italy in 1997. It was at Roma where he truly cemented his legacy. Cafu played a crucial role in Roma's Serie A championship win in 2001, their first league title in 18 years. His consistent performances earned him the nickname "Il Pendolino" (The Express Train), highlighting his incredible pace and work rate on the right flank.

Cafu's international career with the Brazilian national team is equally distinguished. He earned his first cap in 1990 and went on to represent Brazil in four World Cups. Cafu is the only player in history to have appeared in three consecutive World Cup finals: winning in 1994, finishing as a runner-up in 1998, and captaining Brazil to victory in 2002. His leadership on and off the pitch was instrumental in Brazil's success, and his ability to inspire teammates was widely recognised.

After leaving Roma, Cafu joined AC Milan in 2003, where he continued to add to his trophy cabinet. During his time with Milan, he won another Serie A title in 2004 and the UEFA Champions League in 2007. Cafu's time in Europe was marked by his consistency, versatility, and unwavering commitment to excellence.

Cafu retired from professional football in 2008, leaving behind a legacy characterised by his exceptional defensive skills, tireless running, and sportsmanship.
