Antonín Panenka is a legendary Czech footballer best known for his audacious penalty technique, which forever changed the art of spot-kicks. Born on December 2, 1948, in Prague, Czechoslovakia, Panenka began his football career with Bohemians Praha, where his creative and technically gifted play as a midfielder made him a standout. However, his name became immortalised in football history during the 1976 UEFA European Championship final.

In a tense penalty shootout against West Germany, Panenka executed a now-iconic chip down the centre of the goal to clinch victory for Czechoslovakia. This bold and unexpected move, requiring immense confidence and precision, has since been dubbed the "Panenka" and is a hallmark of daring brilliance in football.

Beyond his famous penalty, Panenka was admired for his vision, composure, and play making abilities. He spent much of his career at Bohemians Praha before moving to Rapid Vienna, where he won multiple Austrian Bundesliga titles. Post-retirement, he remained active in football as a mentor and ambassador for the game. Antonín Panenka’s legacy endures as a symbol of ingenuity and courage, celebrated not only for his unforgettable penalty but also for his deep love of the sport.
